JULIA BOLAND ACHIEVES HAT TRICK
IN 2010 GREATER BUILDING SOCIETY LAKE MACQUARIE WOMENS AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP AT BELMONT
Having taken out the prestigious National Ranking tournament in 2008 and 2009, the popular Julia Boland flew back from Texas A&M College to attempt her third successive crown at Belmont.
Julia finished the first day tied in second place on one under with Justine Lee (Australian), and Stacey Keating (Victoria). Elissa Orr (Commonwealth) led on 3 under.
On the second day the Australian Amateur Champion Justine Lee went to the lead after equaling the tournament record of 5 under 68. Boland’s 8 (4 over) on the 17th caused some concern and resulted in her trailing Lee by seven strokes !
A 2 under 71 on the third day brought Boland up to 2 under after 54 holes. Lee was 4 under, Keating and Chantal Hodson (Australian) were 3 under.
On the 4th and final day after 9 holes Boland had drawn level with Lee and Keating. On the back 9 Julia went to the lead with birdies on 13th and 14th. Players were then called off the course due to thunder and lightning. After play resumed Julia finished birdie, double bogey and par to win her third successive championship with 287 (5 under) after 4 days and 72 holes.
